MiraCosta College Library Renovation
Cardiff, CA
The renovation of MiraCosta Community College District’s 17,000-square-foot Library Building at the San Elijo Campus included demolition and construction completed by over thirty trades, as required by the Division of the State Architect (DSA). Scopes included interior walls, doors, windows, restrooms, ceilings, and custom finishes. New mechanical, plumbing, electrical, data, fire alarm, and fire protection systems (including clean agent for the MDF room) were also provided. Exterior work consisted of the addition of a back-flow preventer, concrete paving, roofing, underground utilities, ADA upgrades, and landscaping. Special features included wall murals, artistic sound proofing, state-of-the-art digital controls, and a STEM lab with beautiful new casework. The newly finished Learning Commons includes a library, tutoring spaces, computer labs, offices, restrooms, and AV/IT support spaces.

California Institute of Technology – Neuroscience Vivarium
Pasadena, CA
This project is the Design-Build renovation and expansion of an existing research laboratory into a new, state-of-the-art vivarium. The project included design and construction of behavioral rooms, vestibule, corridor and other ancillary spaces for the Institute’s Biology and Biological Engineering Division. Located in the center of campus, the project went through plan check and permitting with all jurisdictional authorities and included specialty mechanical, electrical, plumbing and finishes design and construction in order to meet the stringent guidelines of the client.

California Institute of Technology - Professor Lamb Laboratory
Pasadena, CA
This design-build, 200 SF laboratory was constructed for Caltech’s Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences. The new structure was designed to independently function as a “dry lab” within an existing and fully operational sediment laboratory and to provide quiet workstations for the researchers. Without interruptions to research activities, Conant’s design-build team collaborated with Caltech to successfully deliver the laboratory on schedule and within a target budget that was 35% less than original estimates.

California Institute of Technology - Cryostat Laboratory
Pasadena, CA
Located in the W.M. Keck Engineering Laboratories on the California Institute of Technology campus in Pasadena, CA, the scope for this project consisted of mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades to the entire building in order to accommodate new cryostat functionality for the Division of Engineering and Applied Science. Multiple building-wide shut downs were coordinated months in advance in order to accomplish the project’s objectives while averting disruption to the Keck Laboratories’ ongoing research activities.

California Institute of Technology - Professor Fu Laboratory
Pasadena, CA
The design-build remodel of this 500 square-foot laboratory located in Caltech’s Gates-Thomas building consisted of the major design and construction disciplines. The primary function of the laboratory is to study subsurface fluid mechanics and how they shape our natural and engineered environments. Scope included demolition, carpentry, gypsum board, flooring, ceilings, painting, fire suppression, laser curtains, plumbing, engineered environments, and specialized gas lines.

California Institute of Technology – Offices Remodel
Pasadena, CA
The purpose of this project was to expand the number of offices within Baxter Hall, the Humanities and Social Sciences Division’s main building on the California Institute of Technology campus in Pasadena, CA. Multiple existing offices were reconfigured for updated mechanical and electrical requirements, as well as for other finishes, such as flooring, painting, doors and window treatments. All work was phased in order for construction to be completed in a fully occupied, operational building.

Port of Los Angeles - San Pedro Waterfront Berth 74-84 Restrooms
San Pedro, CA
Conant Company was chosen to construct a new restroom building at the San Pedro Waterfront Promenade. This 700 square-foot structure is part of the larger 20 acre development for the Port of Los Angeles that is reimagining the waterfront. The restroom building is a CMU structure with a standing-seam metal roof, metal panels and mechanical, electrical and plumbing fixtures. Being just feet from the water, this project involved complex environmental restraints and delivery coordination.

Sara Coughlin Elementary School - Storm Water Lift Station (LAUSD)
Pacoima, CA
The Los Angeles Unified School District Coughlin Elementary School project consisted of two separate, but related, elements: onsite development of a permanent sump pump system and offsite, “B-Permit” construction. The duplex sump pump system was built 17 feet below the existing asphalt parking lot, where it connects to an existing stormwater detention basin to discharge stormwater away from the property. Offsite scope included City of Los Angeles permitted construction of asphalt paving, curb, gutter, sidewalk, tree wells, handrailing and underground utilities immediately in front of the school on public property. Challenges overcame included on-time procurement of critical materials and equipment at the height of the 2020 COVID-19 Global Pandemic, obtaining the Construction B-Permit in 30 days, achieving water flow in gutters formed at less than two-tenth’s percent slope, and adjusting to a redesign of the sump-pump system during construction.
